                  On The Beach In Maui

Picture Across Pool To Beach In Maui

June 8, 1998

The Knight Family headed out West on June 8, 1998 for a week of Dad's work followed by a long weekend side trip to Grand Teton National Park and then on to Yellowstone for four days.  On the return trip to Columbia, we stopped by Steamboat Springs to visit with our Cousin, H.C. Pace.

We had a wonderful trip and delightful time with H.C. and Sharon in their mountain-top home overlooking the United States Olympic Skiing Team practice runs.

The picture at left was taken north of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the
mountains in the background are the  Grand Tetons.  There are no more majestic mountains in the United States.

35th Wedding Anniversary

Mother and Dad celebrated their   35th Wedding Anniversary by a wonderful trip to the North Georgia mountains and a delightful stay in a remote, mountaintop cabin in the Chattahoochee National Forest near Blairsville, Georgia. Mother especially enjoyed the shopping in the lovely German town of Helen, which is only twelve miles from the cabin. Dad   gave Mother a beautiful necklace and earrings as an anniversary present.

The view from the cabin is simply breathtaking [see top photo at left]  and the serenity of the surrounding mountains made for a great time together and an unforgettable trip.

They took a side trip to "The Carpet Capital of the World," Dalton, Georgia. They were amazed to see all the carpet mills and outlets and learn that almost 90 percent of the carpet manufactured in the United States is produced within a 30 mile radius of Dalton. The selection of carpet and tile was almost overwhelming, but after some hard work and many stops in shops, they were able to narrow the selection down to a couple of choices.

           Hawaii Trip

    May 31 - June 9, 2004

On Memorial Day, 2004, Dad, Mom, Trish Anne, Trish Anne's friend, Ben and our Cousin, David, set out on a ten day trip to see the sights and do some tent camping in the Hawaiian Islands.  We had a wonderful time camping right out on the beaches, snorkeling, and sightseeing on the islands of Oahu and Maui.

We spent five days on Oahu island, swimming at Waikiki Beach and touring the island by car. Then we flew over to the island of Maui to take the "Road To Hanna" stopping along the way to see the beautiful waterfalls and black beach near the state campground just outside of Hanna.

The pictures to the left were taken on the beach in front of the Grand Wailea Resort.

                            Early Morning Men's Bible Classes

For the past eleven years, one of the highlights of Dad’s week has been the Thursday Morning Bible Class, previously held at Walker and Jane Clarke’s home on Lake Katherine, and more recently in the home of Tucker and Emma Laffitte around the corner, and more recently the Friday Morning Bible Class at Louie Cason's home. The groups are made up of men from all walks of life, mostly business and professionals, retired as well as younger and middle age men.

For five years, Dad and Fred Zoeller rode together for the weekly 6:45 - 8:00 class. The facilities are wonderful and the food is great. At the Thursday class seventy-five or so men regularly attend.  The Friday class has 45 - 50 men who regularly attend.

The Thursday class enjoys the ministry of  Dr. Sinclair Ferguson, the Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church.  The Friday class is taught by Dr. Mark Ross, former Associate Pastor of  First Presbyterian Church and currently Professor at Erskine Theological Seminary, Columbia Campus. Most who attend once come back for more.

This year the Friday Morning Bible Class is studying through the book of Joshua.  To hear the Bible Study, Click Here.

Fred went home to be with the Lord on April 5, 2003.  He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor.  Click here to read the story of his experience at Pearl Harbor.
